How can we increase conversion rates?

After extensive research the first thing most leading competitors try to accomplish is understanding their audience. That is key, alongside creating trust and credibility, clear value propositions, personalization.

How can we increase conversion rates?

My role as designer

- Performing qualitative, quantitative, primary, and secondary research.

- Synthesizing research and data.

- Perform a multitude of user interviews.

- Create and present ideations, user flows, wire frames, low/high fidelity screens, sketches, prototyping.

- Implementing UI elements and design that increases conversion rates from end users.

Screener Survey & Interview Transcript

To understand what could increase the likelihood of users switching from a free service to a paid service, I wanted interview a few individuals on their opinion on what companies can do to earn their money.

Key Takeaways

- App needs useful features

- No signs of laziness, and cutting corners

- Platform needs personalization

- Credibility and trust is important

Synthesizing My Research

Here I combine various elements, insights, and information gathered from research.

Affinity Mapping

while completing my affinity mapping exercise I was able to group all of my gathered data into four categories. These four categories were Premium app needs, bad premium app tendencies, care and provide, and finally worth. The main takeaways involved users being okay paying for a subscription if the application benefits them and serves some purpose. That paired with feeling a sense of trust and care can be the driving force to improving conversion rates. Users specifically weren't fond of apps that spams upgrade notification, especially when they aren't fulfilling the users needs.

User Personas

Here I have two user personas to clearly layout what are the users needs and pain points to stake holders to help them further understand their audience.

User flows

Now I begin to represent steps that our user will take to accomplish a task within our system. My goal it to optimize the user's journey while ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience. I also want to implement any features or details that was collected in my earlier findings to help increase conversion rates. I specifically want to stay away from having our system constantly notify upgrade notifications which drove a lot of users away from paying for a service.

Low fidelity wire frames

As I start to begin my design process, I want to start laying down the foundation of how I want the interface to be structured. Margins, information hierarchy, white spacing, layout, personalization, and usability are some things that I really payed attention to ensure an interface that is appealing to the eye and also intuitive for usability.

Usability testing

I start to conduct some usability feedback to gain some insight from participants pain points from utilizing the low fidelity screens.

High fidelity wire frames

Now that my foundation and layout is set and I've received feedback from some usability testing, It was time for me to implement my color palette alongside improving on the feedback that was received. I aimed at creating a very modern look while implementing vibrant accent colors throughout the interface. I decided to use a dark grey background to mix with the vibrant accents to create a perfect balance of subtleness but bold. Lastly I designed a back button to allow users to smoothly navigate backwards when using the app.

Conclusion / Prototype

Anima was a very interesting project to take part in and it included a lot of new things that I had to account for. Designing for, and implementing UI elements to increase conversion rates was a challenge but with enough research and user interviews, coming to an solution was easier than first expected. Screener surveys and User testing proved to have the most impact on this project. Gaining the perspective of end users and learning what can push them to take that extra step to pay for an application would be exactly what Anima needed. Alongside a very clean, sleek UI interface and design, I was able to create a media platform that users would rave for.
